Graphite on mixed media paper, 5’ x 3’
Embracing the intricate process of understanding Absence, two sheets of paper sized 5’ x 3’ are filled with various degrees of graphite. Time is documented through numbered instructions. A sense of endurance as well as an obsessive behavior is documented through the transparency of labor presented by the arrows; both characteristics enhanced by a mourning process. Tedious and meticulous actions are performed. When one feels a loss so deeply, grief lens seems to be a symptom that permanently resides inside one’s body and mind to view the world in a constant state of grief. The topic and a personal work of mourning is neutralized through objective scoring, while simultaneously felt poignant by the confronting grayscale drawing beside it.
